Frequently Asked Transmission Questions
Why is your price less expensive than the Dealer and the
other major transmission chains Like Cottman and AAmco?
Why did several other shops tell me I need a new transmission
when you just replaced an inexpensive sensor?
What does my engine have to do with my transmission not shifting?
How often should I have my transmission fluid changed?
How long does a transmission last?
Why does a new transmission cost so much?
What is the difference between a Repair and an Overhaul?
What is your warranty policy?
Why can't just any mechanic rebuild my transmission?
Believe it our not, most new car dealerships don't actually have a
transmission rebuilder on staff. Most of the time, they run a few tests
and if it doesn't pass then they sell you a complete re-manufactured
transmission when in fact, it may have been a simple component
malfunction to blame. As for the other major chains, many of them are
required by their franchise agreements to charge top dollar in order to
cover their fees.
Transmissions are very complex with changing technology all the time.
Bottom line is unless you specialize in transmission repair and are
committed to being on the cutting edge of the industry, you simply
will be left behind and that's when a $200 repair can turn into $2000.
The same reason you don't have your foot doctor perform the heart
surgery you need. It takes a specialist.
Today's automatic transmissions rely on input signals from the engine in
order to work properly. Something as simple as a malfunctioning engine
temperature sensor can disable your transmission from shifting.
Unfortunately at some repair shops this is a very Grey area. At
Transmission Technology it's as clear as day. A
transmission repair is
where the specific malfunctioning parts are located and replaced. The
customer is then charged accordingly for parts and labor and often the
warranty will be different.

A
transmission overhaul is where the unit is completely disassembled
with all the worn and broken parts being replaced. In addition, all of the
normal wearable parts (such as seals and clutches) are replaced and we
install all industry upgrades that are available. (yes the manufactures
doesn't always get it right the first time). All overhauls carry our standard
12 months or 12000 mile "no hassle" warranty.
The car's transmission is one of the two main components of the vehicle drive
train. The other being the engine itself. In comparision, it is often less expensive
than an engine replacement.
Sad to say, but the average life of a modern automatic
transmission is about 150,000 miles.
You should have your transmission fluid changed and inspected by a
transmission professional every 30,000 miles.
Only a Transmission
Specialist can accurately spot problems early on before they
become big ones. Something simply not possible at a quick oil
change.
Our standard warranty is 12 months or 12,000 miles whichever comes
first. In addition, we offer a 3 year or 36,000 mile warranty for a small
charge.

Warranty on non-overhaul repairs vary depending on the nature of the
repair itself.
